Discover holidays in Poldark country at Hengar Manor

Welcome to Poldark country – a land of dramatic landscapes, raging seas and stunning natural beauty. Welcome to Cornwall…

The return of Poldark to TV screens in 2015 – now in its second series and a third planned for 2017 – showcased Cornwall’s breathtaking natural beauty to a prime time TV audience. Viewers were blown away by the jaw-dropping coastal and rugged moorland landscapes of Cornwall, which were the perfect backdrop to the sombre and sometimes moody scenes from the drama.

At its height, nearly 10 million people tuned in to watch the first series of Poldark to watch Ross, Demeleza and Elizabeth and the Warleggans. Aidan Turner may have stolen the show with is shirtless scything scenes but, perhaps the real star was Cornwall itself.

If you were enthralled and engrossed by Poldark and want to see this stunning landscape for yourself then book a stay with us, in the heart of Poldark country. The areas surrounding our Cornwall holiday park were used extensively by film crews in both the first and second series. We’re located a stone’s throw from the moorland peaks of Roughtor and Brown Willy, on Bodmin Moor, which were the background to many Poldark scenes, including the location of Poldark’s house. You can even head out on the Poldark Trail on horseback, courtesy of our friends at Hallagenna Riding School.

If you want to explore the other Poldark film locations in Cornwall then you’re only a short drive away. Charlestown Harbour with its tall ships in the dock was used often in the first and second series. A journey west will allow you to take in the engine houses of Levant Mine and Botallack where the cast, including Warren Clarke, Eleanor Tomlinson and Heida Reed all filmed scenes.

Follow in Ross Poldark’s footsteps and tour the county to see all those breathtaking film locations. Head west along the north coast to St Agnes Head, which was used as Nampara Valley; Gunwalloe on the Lizard is a beautiful spot and the beach at Church Cove was used for the shipwreck scenes and remote Porthcothan was to portray Nampara Cove.

But it’s not just Poldark that has shown Cornwall off to millions of people around the country. Another popular show is Doc Martin, which is filmed just 8 miles away in the picture postcard destination of Port Isaac – or Portwenn as it is known on screen.

This popular comedy drama, starring Martin Clunes as the difficult doctor, is now in its 7th series – all of which have been set in the popular fishing village, which is well worth a visit. Wander around the narrow streets, look in at the Doc’s house or enjoy a bite to eat at Burt’s café – all just a short drive from our North Cornwall holiday park.
