Polzeath beach (13 miles / 35 minutes from Hengar Manor)
One of the most popular of all the North Cornwall beaches, Polzeath has developed a reputation as one of the most fashionable places in Cornwall, and its stunning beach is one of the main reasons for its popularity. At low tide the beach is quite simply enormous, presenting plenty of opportunity to explore the sands in front of you. But, should you need to make a dash back to the shops for that all important ice-cream, then you’re just a stone’s throw from the village centre.
Fistral Beach, Newquay (24 miles / 46 minutes from Hengar Manor)
Fistral’s reputation as one of the beast beaches in Cornwall is justified – in fact it is up there as one of the finest in Europe, especially if you’re a surfer. The beach is divided into three – South Fistral, the main beach and Little Fistral. The beach can get extremely busy in the summer months but is blessed with great facilities and wonderful views.
Watergate Bay, near Newquay (21 miles / 44 minutes from Hengar Manor)
Escape the hustle and bustle of Newquay by driving a few miles up the coast to Watergate Bay. Here you will be met by a glorious, open expanse of golden sandy beach. And, if you work up an appetite after a day of activity on the sand, the you can nip into the Beach Hut eatery or even sample some posh nosh at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant. Dogs are allowed all year and there’s also ample parking.
Widemouth Bay, Bude (20 miles / 35 minutes from Hengar Manor)
The sands around Bude are regarded some of the most spectacular in Cornwall. Remote yet beautiful in winter, they can become busy in the summer months. Bude was recently voted the 7th best beach destination by website Trip Advisor, and it is worthy of this impressive accolade. It is an ideal location from where to learn to surf in Cornwall.
Harlyn Bay, Padstow (16 miles / 33 minutes from Hengar Manor)
A great family beach, Harlyn has lots to offer. More sheltered than some of its north coast neighbours, this beach is located close just a mile from Trevone Head and has loads of amenities nearby. This is one of our favourite north Cornwall beaches, with its long stretch of sand and beautiful turquoise waters. From rock pools and to sand dunes, there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained – justifiably regarded as one of the best beaches in Cornwall.
